Encircling Kraków's historic Old Town like an emerald necklace, Planty is a unique four-kilometer green belt established in the 1820s. Built over the demolished medieval city walls and filled-in defense moat, the park is divided into eight contiguous garden zones. Shaded paths beneath century-old horse chestnuts, manicured flowerbeds, fountains, and memorials line the route, which also wraps around the red-brick medieval Barbican.

Highlights

  • Four-kilometer emerald park ring tracing Kraków's dismantled city walls
  • Surviving medieval fortifications including the fortified brick Barbican
  • Lush shaded avenues lined with mature chestnut trees and historic monuments
