The Erechtheion is a masterpiece of Ionic Greek architecture on the north side of the Acropolis of Athens, constructed between 421 and 406 BC. Built with an asymmetric plan to accommodate uneven ground, it housed the sanctuaries of Athena Polias, Poseidon, and mythical king Erechtheus. Its most famous feature is the Porch of the Caryatids, where six gracefully sculpted marble maiden figures effortlessly support the entablature of the roof.
