Volkspark Friedrichshain is Berlin's oldest public municipal park, established in 1848 to mark the centenary of Frederick the Great's ascension. Its crown jewel is the fairy-tale neo-baroque Märchenbrunnen fountain, adorned with sculptures of Brothers Grimm characters. Two wooded hills, known as Mont Klamott and created from wartime bunker rubble, provide elevated viewpoints. The park also boasts an open-air cinema, sports courts, and lawns.
