Among the oldest and most evocative Chinese shrines in Saigon, this temple was established around 1760 by the Cantonese merchant community in Cholon. Dedicated to Mazu (Thien Hau), protector of seafarers, the complex is renowned for its elaborate porcelain dioramas on the roof ridges, depicting scenes from classical folklore. Inside, sunlit courtyards are filled with sweet aromatic smoke rising from giant spiraling incense coils hung overhead.

Highlights

  • Intricate 18th-century porcelain dioramas adorning the tiled roof ridges
  • Giant incense coils hanging from courtyard rafters with personal prayer slips
  • Atmospheric Cantonese spiritual sanctuary in the heart of Cholon Chinatown
