An iconic Bangkok landmark soaring over 21 metres high in front of Wat Suthat temple in Phra Nakhon district. Constructed of red teakwood pillars in 1784 under King Rama I, the towering swing was built for the annual Brahmanic harvest festival. Daring young men swung to dizzying heights attempting to grab a bag of coins with their teeth. The dangerous ritual was permanently discontinued in the 1930s.
