Opened in 1915 within Tennoji Park, this historic municipal zoological garden is one of Japan's oldest, caring for around 1,000 animals representing nearly 200 species. The zoo replicates natural ecosystems, highlighting an African Savanna zone with grazing giraffes, zebras, and lions, alongside an Asian rainforest zone and nocturnal kiwi house. Visitors also enjoy a submerged glass-walled tunnel to watch hippos swimming underwater.
