One of Warsaw's most powerful monuments, on Krasinskich Square, unveiled on 1 August 1989 for the 45th anniversary of the 1944 uprising. The first bronze group shows insurgents walking into battle; the second depicts them descending into a manhole — a reference to the retreat through the sewers and the uprising's defeat. It stands beside the Supreme Court, where the city holds its main memorial gatherings and the annual memorial march starts.
