The Institut Valencià d'Art Modern — Spain's first museum devoted entirely to modern and contemporary art, opened in 1989. The collection is anchored by sculptor Julio González, who gives the centre its name, and Valencian painter Ignacio Pinazo, alongside photography and international shows. Its light-filled building with a through atrium sits in the old town near the Quart towers.
