Verona's premier opera house and one of Italy's historic musical stages was inaugurated in 1716 by the Accademia Filarmonica, designed by Francesco Galli da Bibiena. Carefully reconstructed after wartime bombing, the theater retains the refined elegance of a classic tiered Italian auditorium. It was here that thirteen-year-old Mozart performed in 1770; today the venue serves as the winter home for the Arena di Verona orchestra and opera.
