The country's largest history museum sits in a former government residence in the Boyana district, some 15 minutes by car from the centre. Its galleries span millennia: Thracian hoards including the famous Panagyurishte gold treasure, icons, coins, weapons and folk costumes. The UNESCO-listed Boyana Church stands next door and a combined ticket exists; a taxi or bus is the easiest way to reach it.
