The museum on the northern tip of Museum Island, opened in 1904 as the Kaiser-Friedrich-Museum and renamed for its first director, Wilhelm von Bode. It houses one of the world's great sculpture collections, from the Middle Ages to the 18th century, Byzantine art with icons and the Numismatic Collection of hundreds of thousands of objects. The domed hall above the Spree is a sight in itself.
