The restored clock tower at the intersection of Chatham Street and Janadhipathi Mawatha (formerly Queen Street) was originally a lighthouse built in 1857. The Khan Clock Tower is about four stories high and stands on a landscaped roundabout that marks the entrance to Pettah Market. The clock tower is a popular spot in Colombo and marks the entrance to Pettah Market. The inscription at the base of the four-story tower in Pettah tells the story of two sons who, years after their father's death, built the monument in his memory.
