Food lovers will want to visit Valencia's famous Central Market, one of the largest fresh food markets in Europe. Located in the city center, the market is housed in an impressive Art Nouveau building built in the early 20th century, which offers a sensory overload of local ingredients, including fresh seafood, iberico, fruits, and vegetables. The venue offers more than 1,200 stalls selling a wide range of fresh produce, seafood, meat, cheese, spices, and local delicacies such as jamón ibérico and Valencian oranges, traditional horchata, and fartons – a treat popular in the Valencian town of Alboraia. This is where Valencia's residents gather to shop, though you'll find the atmosphere a little different from your local supermarket. The Mercado Central (Central Market) is one of Europe's oldest food markets, adorned with Valencian-style mosaics and filled with locals buying local products from more than 1,200 trusted vendors selling everything from meat and vegetables to baked goods and takeout food. Spanning more than 86,000 square feet, the building occupies a site that was used as an open-air market in the mid-19th century.
