Founded in 1888 by Prince Ferdinand I of Bulgaria, Sofia Zoo is the oldest and largest zoological garden in the Balkans. Spanning 36 lush hectares in the Lozenets district, it provides a green habitat for more than 2,000 animals representing over 300 species. Highlights include brown bears, Amur tigers, Persian leopards, Asian elephants, and rare Balkan raptors. Mature shade trees and quiet ponds make it ideal for family strolls.
