Broken Chair

Sight4.5 · 9 2984.1 · 1 078≈ 22 minFree entry2.4 km from the center

A twelve-metre wooden chair with one broken leg has stood on Place des Nations opposite the UN's European headquarters since 1997. Sculptor Daniel Berset created it for Handicap International to campaign against anti-personnel mines, and in 2007 the monument was rebuilt in sturdier oak. It has become Geneva's most photographed landmark and a blunt reminder of the human cost of war.
