Lyon's former main hospital, with a facade stretching over 300 metres along the Rhone; the great 18th-century rebuilding was led by Jacques-Germain Soufflot, later the architect of the Pantheon in Paris. Restored as the Grand Hotel-Dieu, the wings now hold an InterContinental hotel, shops and restaurants, while arcaded courtyards and domes are open for free strolls. The complex links Place des Cordeliers with the riverfront.
