A monumental classical palace on Dam Square, constructed in the 17th century by Jacob van Campen as Amsterdam's opulent town hall during the Dutch Golden Age. Converted into a royal residence under Louis Bonaparte in 1808, it remains an official venue for state visits and royal ceremonies. Its centrepiece is the cavernous Citizen's Hall, featuring inlaid marble floor maps of the world and a massive statue of Atlas.
