The historic spiritual heart of the Romanian Orthodox Church, crowning Dealul Mitropoliei (Patriarchy Hill) in central Bucharest. Completed in 1658 by Prince Constantin Șerban, the cathedral showcases distinctive Wallachian and Brâncovenesc architectural elements with domes and ornate frescoes. Inside, pilgrims venerate the gilded iconostasis and the silver reliquary containing Saint Demetrius the New, the city's patron.
