The Royal Basilica of Saint Francis the Great rises on a hill in the La Latina district. Built in the late 18th century, it is crowned by one of the largest domes in the Christian world, some 33 metres across — wider than Rome's Pantheon. Seven radial chapels surround it, decorated with frescoes including Goya's Saint Bernardino of Siena, painted for this very church.

Highlights

  • One of the largest church domes in the Christian world
  • Goya's fresco Saint Bernardino of Siena
  • Seven chapels around the grand dome
  • 18th-century design by Francesco Sabatini
