Coit Tower is a 64-metre Art Deco concrete tower crowning Telegraph Hill, built in 1933 through a bequest by philanthropist Lillie Hitchcock Coit. Its base is renowned for vivid 1934 New Deal murals painted by 25 artists depicting social realism and California's working-class life during the Great Depression. The open observation deck at the top provides sweeping 360-degree views of the San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz, and the city skyline.
