Milan's monumental cemetery, opened in 1866: the Famedio hall of fame and hundreds of tombs mixing Art Nouveau, neo-Gothic and Egyptian revival, from miniature pyramids to veiled angels. Conductor Arturo Toscanini, writer Alessandro Manzoni and other celebrated Milanese are buried here. A stroll through the grounds is an open-air sculpture museum; entry is free (closed Mondays).
