Qatar's State Grand Mosque in the Bin Mahmoud area, opened in 2012 with room for some 30,000 worshippers — the largest in the country. The central hall under one big dome is ringed by dozens of smaller domes, patterned arches and a tall minaret visible from across the city. A visitor centre lends abayas to women and runs free guided tours for non-Muslims outside prayer times.
