Commissioned between 1612 and 1619 by Prince-Archbishop Markus Sittikus as an Italianate summer pleasure palace, Hellbrunn sits just south of Salzburg. The estate is globally famed for its ingenious Mannerist trick fountains, designed to surprise and soak unsuspecting noble guests with hidden water jets built into stone dining tables, grottoes, and a hydraulic mechanical theater. Expansive historic parklands surround the palace.
