Built between 1887 and 1891 as part of the Risanamento urban renewal project, the monumental cross-shaped arcade features a soaring glass-and-iron barrel vault crowned by a 56-meter dome. Beneath the skylights, visitors admire an elaborate marble mosaic floor depicting the twelve zodiac signs around a central compass rose.
